Octagonal houses and barns enjoyed a
brief popularity in the 1850's and
1860's, as people experimented with new
forms of "scientific" living. This small
octagon was originally built as a
brooding house for hens, who, according
to local farmers, prefer to roost in
corners. It is also rumored to have
housed gamecocks for sporting parties
who came on outings from hotels in Cape
May. By the middle of this century in
had been converted from a chicken house
into a children's playhouse. The
building now serves as the HCSV Flower
Shop selling dried flowers arrangements,
décor, and gifts.
Flower Shop hours are 10am-4:00pm when
The Village is open.
